Ember Guest House was built and founded in 2012 and is centrally located in Addis Ababa, the capitol city of Ethiopia. It is fully licensed and has been rated the number 2 guest house in the area by the Ethiopian government. Located in the sub-city of Lebu, and just 20 minutes from the airport. Ember Guest House is a full service guest house, with many amenities including on staff professional drivers, chefs, housekeepers, translators, and laundry services. Ember Guest House offers eight spacious rooms, in house meals prepared by a trained chef, 24 hour guest kitchen, wifi, new comfy furnishings, and dining room seating for 18. Each floor is tastefully decorated with paintings by local artists. Many outdoor gathering areas include a grassy play area, second floor covered outdoor patio, top floor bistro style outdoor patio with tables and umbrellas, and patio access from each guest room. Each area can accommodate a large group. A living room with ample seating, includes a flat screen TV with DVD player, cable TV, a library of movies and some games.
Ember Guest House is owned and operated by husband and wife team Berhanu Mekonnen & Emily Cornish Mekonnen. Emily and Berhanu share a deep love for Ethiopia, together with their strong faith they make a great team. Berhanu, an Ethiopian native and one of the founders of Great Hope Charities in Korah, volunteers for Hope for Korah, a child and family sponsorship program, income generation program for women in the local community of Korah and a Berta feeding program. Emily, an Oregon native, served in Ethiopia from 2011-2013 as a nurse and established a clinic in Korah. Together they are committed to giving back to the community they love and serve in. A portion of each guests stay is donated back to the community thru the Ember Grant program Berhanu was granted US permanent residency in 2013, and now the couple resides in Oregon while they await Berhanu’s approval to become a US citizen. Emily and Berhanu continue to be an integral part of Ember as they oversee all operation of the guest home and communicate daily with the staff and managers of Ember.
